Scatterand is a hybrid desktop/web editor for HTML documents, with a focus on content composition. Using the included client, the experience is that of a simple desktop word processor; using a web browser, you can edit your documents from machines without the client installed.
Scatterand combines a modular, web-based word processing script (Python/HTML/JavaScript), with a specialized, webkit-based client that provides a native interface to the JavaScript-based editing tools. The server-side scripts can run transparently in the background on your desktop machine (via python’s HTTP server), or on e.g. an Apache web server (via WSGI). Scatterand documents are created from templates that can contain arbitrary HTML and JavaScript, so that it can also be used as a platform for creating a variety of document-based applications.
